Music Live is happy to present a new collaboration with Natalie Grefenstette from our favourite More Ice and Honey jazz band, who, for the first time ever, will be bringing you a heady cocktail of artists in creative event: Sax on the Beach – enjoy responsibly!!
Join us at the Hoxton Charlie Wright’s music lounge for a balmy summer evening of music, comedy and entertainment, guaranteed to get you in the mood and on the dance floor, flip-flops and all. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry (with joy), you’ll move those feet to catchy tunes – it’s an evening not to be missed. With acts ranging from some of London’s talented singer-songwriters, a musical comedy troupe, to jazzy tunes with an emphasis on sax appeal, there’s plenty to entice anyone who enjoys awesome displays of talent. Hosted and presented to you by charming Natalie Grefenstette.
The main ingredient of Sax on the Beach is old favorite headliner Jazz quintet from Magic Forest Party:
The Men With No Name:
Max Fagandini (trumpet), Michael Powell (saxophone), Michael Cearns (piano), Mike Roberts (bass) and Hugo Fagandini (drums) will entertain you with beautiful Jazz tunes both standard and original. They put on their jazz hats and started playing after discovering a mutual love of the medium, great tunes and fancy suits (or Hawaiian shirts and leis, if you’re Lucky). Taking the popular ‘let’s get a bit silly’ approach to jazz, these guys offer a blend of swing, latin, funk and more – with a smidgen of reggae if you play your cards right – that’s guaranteed to entertain. Joining the band on the vocals are Lyubov Pronina, who received much praise after her first performance in London at our last event Magic Forest Party, Elena Dana and Natalie Grefenstette.
The middle layer of the cocktail is the Comedy Group:
The hilariously warped minds that brought you ‘McDonalds: The Musical’ and ‘Graham Goes to Hollywood’ are back, performing in Charlie Wright’s for the first time. UCL’s finest musical comedy troupe is here to take you on a journey full of chuckles, musical theatrics and plenty of completely improvised – and distressingly catchy – tunes.
The top layer is going to be three Songwriters who will each present an acoustic set at the early part of evening:
Fresh off his European tour, we’ve managed to pin him down to play with us at the Charlie Wright’s – so catch him while you can! Rob is a songwriter, singer and musician who likes to write about small, everyday stuff without neglecting bigger issues like death and physics, all in a light-hearted relaxed way. Rob’s music and stories about his tour can be found here
Elena is almost a regular at Charlie Wright’s now having hosted and organised two last successful events there, as well as taking to the stage to perform some jazz classics! And this time Elena will be grabbing her guitar and delighting us with some of her original tunes, which you can get a taste of here.
Frankie will open the night so come down early to catch her. She is a talented singer-songwriter who enjoys alternating between deliciously dark songs and disarmingly light-hearted commentary and will blind you with her beauty, try this!
